An Owner-Builder takes on the role of the Project Manager for your pool project. Although pool companies may say they have a project manager assigned to your pool, the truth is that you will hardly see this person and, ultimately, you will still be responsible for ensuring the contractors are performing their work in accordance with your pool specifications. Since you are going to be the Project Manager anyways, why not save a boat load of money in the process.
No, we are not saying you will be digging the pool, spraying the gunite, applying the tiles, etc. You will simply be following the same exact steps pool companies use when they build pools. The only area in which pool companies have the benefit is that they already have relationships with the subcontractors who will ultimately be building your pool. However, with a little online research, finding these subcontractors is not difficult. Although building a pool is a large project, there is no need to feel intimidated.
